What We Do & Who We Are

The Hebrew Free Loan Association of South Florida, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, offers interest-free loans to Jewish individuals and families in urgent need and who may not qualify through normal financial resources.
HFLA offers interest-free loans of up to $4,000 with up to a four year repayment plan created on an individual basis. The HFLA loan committee meets weekly, enabling the loans to be readily available once the applicant has had their personal interview and granted the loan.

Our loan programs provide financial assistance for situations such as but not limited to:  emergencies, medical, dental expenses, car, housing, repairs, life-cycle events, early childhood, continuing adult education, divorce, immigration costs, victims of domestic violence, mortgage and rental costs etc. Since 1989, Hebrew Free Loan Association of South Florida, Inc. has been funded primarily by private donations. Our funding program facilitates financial independence through interest-free lending.

Each contribution is an investment in the dignity and independence of many individuals and families in our local Jewish community. As soon as monthly loan payments are deposited HFLA approves new loans and is able to help the next persons in need. Our clients understand our procedures and they are committed to timely repayment of their loans. This helps us to maintain our 98% PLUS repayment rate.

OUR MISSION

The Hebrew Free Loan Association of South Florida, Inc. (HFLA) offers interest-free lending to Jewish individuals and families whose needs are urgent and who may not qualify through normal lending sources.
Interest-free loans, instead of charity, fill an important gap in our social system by promoting self-sufficiency with dignity.
The Torah mandates us to give to those less fortunate. HFLA’s mission is based on the Mitzvah of Tzedakah; one is actually required to lend money to a fellow Jew when he is in need, because this is the highest level of giving. In other words, the generous act of giving Tzedakah enables us to help those in need while fulfilling a number of Torah Commandments.

If there is among you a needy person, you should open your hand wide to him, and you should surely lend him sufficient for his needs.
Deuteronomy 15:11

WHY MAKE A GIFT TO HFLA?

HFLA is a source of economic justice in the community.  The assistance we offer is unique, providing cash in hand while empowering borrowers. Nowhere else can supporters see such a direct impact from their donations dollar-for-dollar. Contributions to HFLA are used as loan capital and to expand the funding programs and services in order to meet todays and future needs.  We count on community support to continue making interest-free loans now more than ever.  All contributions are tax deductible.
